In preparation for severe weather, the state is testing all of it's emergency alert equipment.
The Marathon County Emergency Management Planner says Thursday they were training local dispatchers on how to use the emergency notification system and making sure all tornado sirens sounded.
Not only were emergency crews brushing up on severe weather procedures, but local schools also joined in the exercises.
They simulated an actual severe weather emergency by sounding the tone and having the children take cover.
Steve Miller, Riverview Elementary Principal, says "For parents and care givers I think the thing they really need to keep in mind is trust us. Our procedures are solid. We practice this so everyone is safe and that's the most important thing."
Miller says about 20 years ago he had a situation where he had to move children to a shelter area due to dangerous weather conditions. He says the drills really help prepare both the students and staff.
