Green Bay, WI – As of 8:45 PM, about 2,000 customers of Wisconsin Public Service remained without power as a result of two batches of severe weather than traveled through much of its service area Sunday night and again Monday morning.
WPS has called in assistance from other area utilities and electric line contractors. The first of 30 additional two-person crews began arriving before 2:00 PM. Because they had worked continuously from Sunday night, some WPS crews will be on "rest" until 10 PM this evening, when they will work through the night to restore service. Some customers may be without power until sometime Tuesday morning. In all, around 300 people are working in the field to restore service.
Damaged Electric Service
Customers who have incurred damage to their service connection or equipment will need it repaired by a private licensed electrical contractor prior to having their power turned back on. Typically, a tree or branch falls on the service line to the home and pulls the customer's service pole away from the side of the house. The maintenance of the service pole is the responsibility of the customer.
Customers should remember not to approach down lines, which may be energized! Allow restoration crews to do their work before attempting clean up.
