Disaster Volunteer Reception Center Training

A Disaster Volunteer Reception Center (VRC) is a group of volunteers who mobilize after a disaster to help coordinate the volunteer effort to help victims, etc. At the VRC spontaneous disaster volunteers fill out applications, are screened, matched with a disaster volunteer opportunity, and trained. To find out if you’d like to be a part of our VRC team, please attend our two part training (day one lecture; day two hands-on).

Day of Caring

We will be raking yards for our local elderly and disabled neighbors, and working on special projects from local non-profit organizations. All volunteers receive a free t-shirt and lunch! If you need your yard raked, please call 2-1-1.

Make a Difference Day

Do you want to make a difference in your community? Join Volunteer Connection for Make a Difference Day 2014. This is a community event for volunteers to get together and help those in need in Marathon County. Spend the morning raking lawns for elderly or disabled residents who have no one to help them with the task. Bring your own rake, gloves and a few friends to help. (Those under age 16 must be accompanied by an adult.) If you have a truck or trailer, you can help haul bagged leaves to area yard waste sites after make a difference day - November 3rd. Can't Rake? Donations will be accepted at the Armory from 8 a.m.-12Noon. Donate non-perishable food items for the Marathon County Hunger Coalition, personal care items/toiletries for the Workplace Volunteer Council's Back to Basics program and new or gently used winter outwear (kids-adults) for the Kiwani's Coats for Kids program.
