Dorothy Faulkner Author Visit

Dolly Faulkner, an author originally from the Athens area, will discuss her book “Forty Years in the Wilderness” on December 1 at 6:30 p.m. at the Marathon County Public Library Athens Branch.
“Forty Years in the Wilderness” is Faulkner’s memoir about her life in the Alaskan wilderness. Faulkner moved to Alaska as a young woman and lives on a homestead in the Kilbuck Mountains. Faulkner will read excerpts from her book and answer audience questions.

How to Create Zentangle Art

Teens and tweens can learn how to create Zentangle art on November 28 at 10:00 a.m. at the Marathon County Public Library Wausau Headquarters.
Zentangle is a unique form of art that anyone can learn. It is not only a fun and beautiful form of drawing, but also has a number of proven benefits including stress management, relaxation, and improving focus and creativity. This is a two-part event, with the second part of the event occurring on December 6 at 1:00 p.m. The first day of the event will consist of a lesson on what Zentangle is and how to do it, along with a take-home activity. On the second day, teens and tweens will create a unique Zentangle craft, which can be used as a holiday gift.

All supplies are provided, and this event is open to teens and tweens only.

Visit the library for children’s movie matinees on November 26 and November 28 at the Marathon County Public Library Wausau Headquarters. On November 28, we will watch “How to Train Your Dragon 2” at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. The film is rated PG. There is no school for the Wausau District and DC Everest on this day, but the library is open for free family fun.
“How to Train Your Dragon 2” has a running time of 105 minutes and is rated PG. Film synopsis: “When Hiccup and Toothless discover an ice cave that is home to hundreds of new wild dragons and the mysterious Dragon Rider, the two friends find themselves at the center of a battle to protect the peace.”

Movie Screening: "Wish I Was Here"

Visit the library for a free screening of “Wish I Was Here” on November 25 at 6:00 p.m. at the Marathon County Public Library Wausau Headquarters, 300 N. First St., Wausau.
Zach Braff stars as Aidan Bloom, a 35-year-old man who finds himself at a major crossroads, forcing him to examine his life, career and family. Braff co-wrote and directed the film, and raised millions through the crowd-funding site Kickstarter to finance it. “Wish I Was Here” also stars Kate Hudson, Josh Gad, and Ashley Greene.
Running time is approximately 106 minutes, and the film is rated R. Free and open to the public.

12 inch GI Joe Doll Scene A Ramas will be exhibited in Marathon County Public Libraries in authentic military uniform and gear as a military tribute and military historical preservation remembrance starting November 1, 2014. The 5 Dioramas or Scene A Ramas are Sponsored by Electronic And Computer Solutions, LLC (electronicandcomputersolutions.com) Wausau, Wisconsin.

Knit Night Event

Knitters of all ages and skill levels are invited to Knit Night on the first Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at the Marathon County Public Library Wausau Headquarters, 300 N. First St., Wausau. The library will provide pattern books and some knitting supplies, but participants are encouraged to bring their own supplies.

The first Knit Night will occur on September 4 and recurs monthly on the first Thursday until December 4.
