YMCA Spooktacular

The Marshfield Area YMCA is hosting a Halloween Spooktacular on Saturday, October 25, from 11:00 am-1:00 pm. All ages are welcome to float in the Y pool with the pumpkins and select the perfect pumpkin to decorate. This event will begin in the pool area, followed by pumpkin decorating, pizza, crafts, and a costume parade. Bring your favorite costume and swimsuit to join in all the fun. Pre-registration by October 18 is required and appreciated. Cost for Y-members is $10 per child and for non-member participants $12.

Spooky Sundays

Teens, join us for Spooky Sunday Movies at the library! Starting October 5, the Marathon County Library Wausau Headquarters will show a spooky movie based on a book each Sunday in preparation for Halloween. Showtimes are from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the Marathon County Public Library Wausau Headquarters, 300 N. First St., Wausau.
Spooky Sunday movies are restricted to teens (grades 6-12), and all films have a PG-13 rating. All of the movies are based on books. The film schedule is:

October 12: “The Haunting”
October 19: “The Mothman Prophecies”
October 26: “I am Legend”

Healthy Halloween Hoedown

We will have LIVE Hoedown music, FUN Carnival games, MAD Science activities, SCARY Stories, TASTY Healthy Food, LIVE Critters, COOL Raffle prizes, CRAZY Face painting and MORE!

There will also be Trick-or-Treating with our downtown business neighbors from 5-7pm! Also, each child will receive a pail of goodies to take home!

The Healthy Halloween Hoedown is a safe and healthy way to enjoy the Holiday in a child/family friendly and fun-filled environment!

Tickets are available at the door for $5 per person and children under 1year are FREE.

Six Spooky Words Contest

Can you write a scary story in just six spooky words? For the Halloween season, the Marathon County Public Library will run a contest for patrons and other community members to submit a six-word horror story. The library will accept entries from October 1 through Oct. 26. The winning entries will be shared with the public via a poster in the library and through social media. Entries can be submitted on paper at any Marathon County Public Library location, or online by emailing The winning entrants will have their choice of several MCPL prizes.
The event is free and open to the public.

"Haunted" Hodag Howl

Hodags on Parade feature Hodag sculptures beautifully painted by local artists. The next Hodags will be auctioned at the “Haunted” Hodag Howl on October 25, 2014. This full-filled event will be held at the Quality Inn beginning at 6:30 p.m. Participants are encouraged to come in costume. There will be refreshments, raffles, games, music and dancing, as well as the Hodag auction.
