Film Screening: "The Lumberjack"

Oct 25, 2014 3pm - 5pm

UWMC Center for Civic Engagement Auditorium, 325 Stewart Avenue, Wausau.
To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the film “The Lumberjack,” Marathon County Public Library, Marathon County Historical Society, and the Wisconsin Center for Film and Theater Research will screen a restored version of the film on October 25, from 3-5 p.m. at the UWMC Center for Civic Engagement Auditorium, 325 Stewart Avenue, Wausau.
“The Lumberjack” is a romantic photoplay enacted in Wausau, Wisconsin about a young mill worker who meets and falls in love with the mill owner’s daughter. It is the oldest film shot in Wisconsin that still exists in its original, complete form. Musician Dan Larson will provide accompaniment to the film and the Wisconsin Center for Film and Theater Research staff will discuss its restoration. Following the film, Stephen Schaller’s 1983 documentary about the making of “The Lumberjack” will also be screened. Schaller’s documentary, “When You Wore a Tulip and I Wore a Big Red Rose,” details the discovery of “The Lumberjack” and includes footage of Wausau and interviews with locals. Schaller is available for media interviews upon request.
The event is free and open to the public, but seating is limited and available on a first come, first served basis.
