What it's Worth? Antique Appraisal

Antique appraiser Mark Moran will evaluate and appraise antique items during “What’s it Worth?” from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sept. 28 in the Wausau Room at the Marathon County Public Library Wausau Headquarters, 300 N. First St., Wausau.
Residents can bring in antique items such as toys, clocks, lamps, costume jewelry, vintage photographs and glassware.
Moran formerly was senior editor of Antiques and Collectibles Books for Krause Publications in Iola, Wis. He also has been a contributing editor for Antique Trader magazine. He served as editor of Antique Review East magazine; as producer of Atlantique City, an antique show held in Atlantic City, New Jersey; and as editorial director of F+W Media's Antiques Group. He is the author or co-author of more than 25 books on antiques and collectibles, including the 800-page annual Warman's Antiques & Collectibles. Moran bought and sold antiques for more than 30 years, specializing in vintage folk art, Americana, and fine art. He was also a newspaper editor and reporter for three decades.
Cost for the event is $10 per item for appraisals. Advance registration is required for appraisals. Admission is free for spectators.

Make a Difference Day

Do you want to make a difference in your community? Join Volunteer Connection for Make a Difference Day 2014. This is a community event for volunteers to get together and help those in need in Marathon County. Spend the morning raking lawns for elderly or disabled residents who have no one to help them with the task. Bring your own rake, gloves and a few friends to help. (Those under age 16 must be accompanied by an adult.) If you have a truck or trailer, you can help haul bagged leaves to area yard waste sites after make a difference day - November 3rd. Can't Rake? Donations will be accepted at the Armory from 8 a.m.-12Noon. Donate non-perishable food items for the Marathon County Hunger Coalition, personal care items/toiletries for the Workplace Volunteer Council's Back to Basics program and new or gently used winter outwear (kids-adults) for the Kiwani's Coats for Kids program. First St, Wausau. Teens are encouraged to bring their questions about suicide or mental illness. Participants will also have an opportunity to learn how they can help their friends through difficult times.
Prevent Suicide Marathon County’s mission is to reduce the number of suicides that take place in Marathon County. The organization educates the community on public awareness of the warning signs of suicide and provides information and support to those affected by suicide.

ReVoiced will be coming to Owen-Withee High School on September 21, 2014, as part of their Music in Schools Tour. The group will perform their full show for the general public at 7pm at the High School. Autumn Fest in The Gardens
Autumn Fest in The Gardens will be Saturday, Sept 27, from 11 am to 3 pm at Robert W. Monk Gardens. Admission is $1 per person and will be held rain or shine. There will be many activities available to the kids including: One of those big parachutes donated by DPI, letterboxing, face painting, Math in the Garden, Fall bingo, a professional story teller(Joni Hahn), a free soccer sized pumpkin for each child (sponsored by the Noon Optimists - limit 600), a photo opportunity, pumpkin decorating, garden tours, food (sponsored by Altrusa) and refreshments (sponsored by Coke) available for purchase as well as a fall themed bake sale (pumpkin, apple, cranberry etc) for purchase (sponsored by Benedictine Living Community).

September is beautiful weather for running, so why not run/walk for fun for the Kronenwetter Fire Department? Join us for our first annual 5K to help raise money for Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services.
