Benefit For Collin Rucinski and Family
Jun 15, 2013 4pm - 8pm
Big Dan and Space's Kelly Club, 4810 Ross Ave, Weston
Collin has Celiac disease, and was recently diagnosis with also having Dandy Walker Variant. He was born with a fluid filled sac at the base of his skull that prevents his cerebral fluid from draining the way it should. Since diagnosis in January, he has undergone four brain surgeries. The first surgery was at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield, and the following at Children's Hospital in Milwaukee. The surgeries are to place a shunt in his brain with tubing down to his stomach so that the fluid can drain and his pressure in his brain can be regulated. The Neurosurgeons are having a hard time finding a shunt that works for Collin. The last one placed is a programmable one. Now the trick is to find the right setting that works for Collin so that his pain level stays at a manageable amount.
Unfortunately, Collin's mom was working two part time jobs w/o benefits and has had to quit one of them to care for Collin. Neither employer has compensated her for the numerous days she has had to take off. Collin's dad has taken over the mom role for his two sisters. He has also had to alter his schedule and miss work opportunities, because the girls need some stability when Collin has spent time in the hospital.
