7th Annual Non-profit Financial Wellness Conference
Registration & Continental Breakfast Begin at 8am, Program 9am - 2:30pm
John Muir Middle School, Wausau
Asset Builders, the Get Smart Wausau Coalition, and many sponsors and community partners will present the seventh-annual Financial Wellness Conference on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Wausau’s John Muir School. Registration and continental breakfast begin at 8:00 am, with the program lasting from 9:00 until 2:30.
The Conference is a nonprofit event and is a great opportunity for area residents to learn personal finance basics. There is no selling or pressure to buy anything – the goal of the Conference is to teach participants how to improve their finances. Richard Entenmann of Asset Builders said “the Conference offers high-quality education in an unbiased and fun atmosphere. Things that people learn here can have substantial “pocket-book” results in the short term, and can set people up to reach higher net worth and income levels in the future.”
Seth Mela, of Radio Station WSAU will again be the Master of Ceremonies and will conduct a special “Financial Quiz Contest” at lunch. Mr. Mela earned his Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature from the University of South Florida and, in 1999, immediately put it to use, opening MELA Professional Services, a financial consulting firm. Mr. Mela hosted several talk shows in Florida, and moved to WSAU in July 2012.
The Conference will feature more than 20 1-hour workshops for adults, on topics such as How to Read Your Credit Report and Improve Your Credit Score, Is Your Landlord Messing With You?, Budgeting Basics - How to Have More Money than Month for a Change, How to Buy a Used Car, Love and Money – a Relationship Challenge, How to Feed Your Family Good Food Without Going Broke, and a full-day Homeownership set of workshops. The Conference features age-appropriate classes for students beginning at age 6 and also includes:
free childcare for children between the ages of 2 and 6 (call to reserve space)
continental breakfast and lunch
a free copy of each participant’s credit report with credit score
door prizes throughout the day
Advance registration is $2.00 for adults and free for youth between the ages of 6 and 18. Registration at the door is $4.00 for adults and $1.00 for youth between the ages of 6 and 18. Scholarships are available.
