MCPL at Harvest Fest

Spooky Sunday movies are restricted to teens (grades 6-12), and all films have a PG-13 rating. All of the movies are based on books. The film schedule is:

Get Fired Up For Safety

17 Fire Depts. participate starting with a parade of a variety of fire equipment from the Fairgrounds traveling north on Central Ave to the 1600 block. They set up their equipment from engines, off road, water rescue, drop tanks etc. The main purpose is fire safety in the home. There is a youth challenge. Demos are stove top, fire extinguisher, stop drop & roll, & seatbelt roll over convincer. Children can bring their teddy bears to have the bears parachute from Marshfield's ariel ladder.

Free Lecture: A Story of Abundance and Great Loss

Following the lecture will be a "meet and greet" with local wildlife artist, Mary Bratz, who painted the background of the museum's passenger pigeon exhibit.

For the Halloween season, the Marathon County Public Library will run a contest for patrons and other community members to submit a six-word horror story. Entries can be submitted on paper at any Marathon County Public Library location, or online by emailing spooky@mcpl.us. The winning entrants will have their choice of several MCPL prizes.

Residents can bring in antique items such as toys, clocks, lamps, costume jewelry, vintage photographs and glassware.
Moran formerly was senior editor of Antiques and Collectibles Books for Krause Publications in Iola, Wis. He also has been a contributing editor for Antique Trader magazine. He served as editor of Antique Review East magazine; as producer of Atlantique City, an antique show held in Atlantic City, New Jersey; and as editorial director of F+W Media's Antiques Group. He is the author or co-author of more than 25 books on antiques and collectibles, including the 800-page annual Warman's Antiques & Collectibles. Moran bought and sold antiques for more than 30 years, specializing in vintage folk art, Americana, and fine art. He was also a newspaper editor and reporter for three decades.

Make a Difference Day

Do you want to make a difference in your community? Join Volunteer Connection for Make a Difference Day 2014. This is a community event for volunteers to get together and help those in need in Marathon County. Spend the morning raking lawns for elderly or disabled residents who have no one to help them with the task. Bring your own rake, gloves and a few friends to help. (Those under age 16 must be accompanied by an adult.) If you have a truck or trailer, you can help haul bagged leaves to area yard waste sites after make a difference day - November 3rd. Can't Rake? Donations will be accepted at the Armory from 8 a.m.-12Noon. Donate non-perishable food items for the Marathon County Hunger Coalition, personal care items/toiletries for the Workplace Volunteer Council's Back to Basics program and new or gently used winter outwear (kids-adults) for the Kiwani's Coats for Kids program. Join Volunteer Connection October 25th, 2014 at the National Guard Armory, 833 S 17th Ave. Wausau 54401 to Volunteer for Make a Difference Day. Raking assignments will be handed out from 8-9am.
