Heart of Vilas County Bike Trail Dedication

We’re connected! The communities of Boulder Junction and Manitowish Waters are pleased to announce the official dedication of the connection between Boulder Junction and Manitowish Waters and the expansion of the “The Heart of Vilas County Bike Trail System.” This trail system is a combined 45 miles of paved trail running through Manitowish Waters, Boulder Junction, Sayner and St. Germain. The paved trail is suitable for bicycles of all types, including road bikes, and are perfect for a family ride or hike. Riders of this connecting portion of trail will experience one of the most scenic and enjoyable trails in northern Wisconsin which travels through a beautiful highland tamarack forest, rolling hills, 560’ of wetland over 10’ wide boardwalks, a 144 foot long and 10 foot wide arched bridge over Rice Creek, proceeding along the Manitowish River to the Manitowish River bridge.
In celebration of the expansion of “The Heart of Vilas County Bike Trail System” will be a Trail Dedication on Saturday, on July 26, 2014 at the Wayside at the intersection of Hwy H and Hwy K, along the bike trail, just 2.5 miles west of Boulder Junction and 10 miles east of Manitowish Waters. Join us anytime from 12noon to 2pm, when the Boulder Junction and Manitowish Waters Lions Clubs will be hosting a complimentary brat and hot dog fry. The dedication and ribbon cutting will take place at 1pm with dignitaries speaking. Bicycle parking available at the Wayside. Vehicle parking is recommended along Nichols Beach Road. Shuttle service will be available.

30th Annual Highground Bike Tour

The 30th Annual Highground Bicycle Tour will be held August 1 through the 3rd. This biking event features bicycle routes from across Wisconsin riding to raise funds for The Highground Veterans Memorial Park. This is a great event for bikers of all skill levels, families and those who wish to support our veterans. Bike routes will begin August 1st in Hayward, Middleton, Appleton and New Richmond. All routes will join together to enter The Highground on Sunday, August 3rd. If you can’t bike in the tour, please come to The Highground at 11:30am, Sunday, August 3rd to support our veterans and welcome the bikers riding in this historic event! Wisconsin Lions Camp Fun Run, Walk and Ride
On August 16, 2014, the Wisconsin Lions Camp will be hosting its 5th Annual Fun Run, Walk and Ride. This event is for runners, walkers, and bikers of all different skill levels. Proceeds raised at this event support our Summer Camp Program that provides a free camp experience for Wisconsin youth and adults with disabilities
The 5K run or walk and 10K run will be held on the beautifully maintained nature trails of the Wisconsin Lions Camp. Both the 15 mile and 30 mile bike rides start and end at the Camp and take you through a scenic countryside. Both events are chip-timed. The 5K and 10K courses are certified (WI-11021-DM).

35th Annual Wausau Triathlon

Sunny Vale Park, 1000 72 Ave, Wausau, Wisconsin 54401
Join about 500 athletes and volunteers at Sunny Vale Park on Wausau’s far west side for this challenging 3-part event. Race is 8 a.m. Aug. 2, 2014. Participants may register for one of the following: the Long Course (1/2 mile swim, 28 mile bike and 6.2 mile run), the Short Course (1/4 mile swim, 17 mile bike and 3.1 mile run) or the Mini Tri (3/16 swim, 9.2 mile bike and 2 mile run). The Triathlon is open to anyone 16 years and older. Register by July 30 at the business desk of either YMCA branch for discounted rates. Sorry, we cannot process race-day registrations.
