All the fresh snow is getting winter sports enthusiasts eager to hit the slopes and trails.
Granite Peak in Rib Mountain will make its first runs on Saturday.
Final inspections are expected to take place this weekend on the Vilas County snowmobile trails and they're expected to open next Tuesday.
Snowmobile trails in Marathon and Lincoln counties won't open anytime soon, despite the snowfall this week.
The Wausau Daily Herald reports the trails need about 6 inches of compacted snow to serve as a base.
While those areas did see nearly a foot of snow tueday into Wednesday, it's still not enough.
Snow isn't the only thing needed to groom the trails.
Snowmobile clubs also need frigid temperatures to freeze area waters.
