NewsChannel 7 is getting a major face lift.

If you've driven past our station on Grand Avenue, you've noticed the piles of dirt out front.

It's what will become the Sunrise 7 Garden.

Every morning on Sunrise 7, meteorologist Lee Ann Okuly goes outside to give two of her weather reports.

Before the background was a little boring: a brick wall. But now, things are really shaping up.

With the help of Down to Earth Greenhouse and Nursery in Wausau and Jason Sillars of Sillars Hardscape and Remodeling, our front lawn is going from bleak to brilliant.

We want our viewers to come along for the ride, and perhaps become motivated to improve their own gardens at home.

Hopefully the Sunrise 7 Garden will be more than just an interesting visual for viewers.

"We'll be learning how to plant the garden and learning how to take care of the vegetables and the flowers throughout the summer and then what to do with them once fall hits and of course, winter," Okuly said.

And according to Down to Earth, anyone can become a green thumb if they want to.

"You wanna grow your own stuff. It's fun. You can get your whole family included in on it and it doesn't have to be work. If you enjoy being outside and enjoy watching things grow, it's actually very calming," said Diane Neumann.

She says anyone who wants to grow a garden just needs an idea.

Think of colors and textures you find appealing, how much you want to spend, and how much time you can devote to gardening.

She says it's okay to plant vegetables and herbs right along your flowers and shrubs for a more cohesive look.

The Sunrise 7 crew will be keeping track of our growing garden every morning, and giving tips for those of you who are thinking of taking on the hobby.
