Jeff Thelen is the most veteran member of the Newschannel 7 News team. He started here as a part-time reporter in 1994 while working as news director at WDUX Radio in Waupaca. "It was the best of both worlds. Radio is a lot of fun, but I spent a lot on gas driving between the two jobs. I also didn't get much sleep. Working the early morning shift in radio and afternoons into the 10 p.m. newscast at the TV station." After that, he worked at WFRV TV in Green Bay as a videographer and reporter, but was only there a few months before another opportunity opened up at NewsChannel 7 in 1996. "The news director at the time told me I had the perfect personality for the morning show. So, I applied and got it. Morning shows in TV are great! You get to show more personality then at night, but that shift takes its toll on your body after a while." Jeff was promoted to 6 and 10 anchor and paired with Susan Ramsett in 2001. A few years later they also started to anchor NewsChannel 7 at 5. In 2007, Jeff was named assistant news director and has since left NewsChannel 7 at 10 to work more behind the scenes and on www.wsaw.com. He produces NewsChannel 7 at 6 and "Our Local Heroes," the twice-a-week segment paying tribute to local members of the military and their families. He also runs NewsChannel 7's annual "Share Your Holidays" food drive to help the Salvation Army and Neighbor's Place food pantries. In his spare time he is an avid Packer and Badger fan, spends time with his family, friends and his dog "Baillie" and will find any excuse he can to work on his garden, lawn, shrubs and flowers. "HGTV hasn't called to do a feature on my back yard yet, but that is my goal."
