Wausau 525 Called Off Due To Conditions After Three Laps

Heavy snow and safety precaution after a crash, ended Sunday's Wausau 525 just three laps into the race.

Reigning World Champion Malcolm Chartier, who won at Eagle River last weekend, led the race three laps in.

But as drivers were finishing lap three, Matt Ritchie lost control of his sled and slammed into a hay bale. Ritchie was okay, but caution came out and drivers all gathered in turn two.

They waited to see if the snow would let up, which it did not.

For driver's safety, and in the spirit of Flip Merwin, who died in a snowmobile accident ten years ago, the race was called off.

It will be made up next weekend in Weyauwega.
