(Press Release) MARSHFIELD – What a difference a year and new location made for the Marshfield Area Gymnastics Club (MAGiC). The 2011 team had 5-6 of its competitors qualify for nationals, while this year 22 girls qualified. The 2012 Nationals competition will start Wednesday, June 20 in the Wisconsin Dells.
The MAGiC club, organized by University of Wisconsin-Marshfield/Wood County’s Continuing Education, consists of girls from 8 to 16-years-old. The girls compete in approximately 12-15 competitions a season from November to June in Wisconsin and Minnesota.
“It’s exciting that nationals is in Wisconsin this year. In the past, if it was in places like California or Washington D.C. the girls weren’t financially able to make the trip,” said Michelle Boernke, director of Continuing Education.
“The girls worked hard this year. It’s exciting to see them take ownership in the team. The Orbital, our permanent gym, is a large part of that. Having the space to practice or give private lessons has made the difference,” said Lori Nilsen-Bibbo, coach.
