MADISON, Wis. – UW-Stevens Point sophomore guard Austin Ryf (Winneconne, WI/Winneconne) has been named the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball Athlete of the Week for his efforts in leading the Pointers to a 2-0 week last week and a perfect 9-0 record overall.
Ryf was the catalyst for UW-Stevens Point as he led the Pointers to a 2-0 record on the week. In a road victory at No. 2-ranked UW-Whitewater, Ryf led the Pointers with 18 points, including 3-for-5 from behind the arc (60 percent), as well as three rebounds and two assists. He also tallied a team-high three steals in the win. On Dec. 15, in a home win against Edgewood College (Wis.), Ryf shot 50 percent from the field (4-for-8) as well as 50 percent from behind the arc (1-for-2). He also recorded a team-high five assists to go along with two rebounds and one steal. On the week, he averaged 13.5 points per game, while shooting 4-for-7 from behind the three-point arc (57 percent), and averaged 3.5 assists, 2.5 rebounds and two steals.
Ryf and the undefeated Pointers, now ranked No. 5 in the D3hoops.com weekly poll, travel to No. 4 St. Thomas on Friday, Dec. 21 in a match-up of undefeated and ranked teams.
