RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point volleyball team upset No. 10 UW-Whitewater Friday night to go 2-0 on the opening day of the UW-River Falls Invitational Tournament.
Christina Brinkman (Bristol, WI/Westosha Central) led the Pointers with 11 kills as UWSP rolled over the Warhawks 25-17, 25-17, 25-20.
Hannah Picel (West Bend, WI/West Bend West) tallied a team-high 12 digs for the Pointers, and Alexis Hartman (Lake Zurich, IL/Lake Zurich) recorded 33 assists.
The Pointers recorded 12 blocks in the win and the Warhawks mustered only three.
Earlier Friday the Pointers defeated Waldorf College handily 25-22, 25-10, 25-15.
Emma Brunkhorst led all players with 10 kills and Hartman chipped in a game-high 32 assists.
The Pointers finished with a .318 attack percentage while posting 17 total blocks.
Picel and Cassidy Kohlhagen (Racine, WI/Union Grove) each recorded two aces in the win.
UWSP concludes the UW-River Falls Invitational Saturday with matches against Gustavus Adolphus and eighth-ranked St. Thomas.
