UWSP Hoops: Women, Men Beat Oshkosh

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team got back on track Wednesday night, defeating the Titans of UW-Oshkosh, 64-55, in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action in Berg Gym.

The Pointers never trailed during the game, leading by as many as 17 points.

The Titans managed to tie up the game, 27-27, with just over a minute left in the first half, but the Pointers pulled away to take a 31-27 lead into the break.

Sam Barber (Schofield, WI/D.C. Everest/Winona St.) led all scorers for the sixth time this season, with 19 points.

Two other Pointers scored in double digits on the evening. Liz Althoff (Darien, WI/Clinton) recorded 11, going 4-for-4 from the charity stripe, and Taylor Bahr (Caledonia, WI/Shoreland Lutheran) recorded 10. Junior Josi Schultz (Eau Claire, WI/Memorial) recorded a game-high 10 rebounds.

Sarah Stecker led the way for the Titans with 12 points. Three other Titans posted 10 points.

UW-Stevens Point (4-2, 1-1 WIAC) returns to action Saturday, Dec. 8, as it travels to Chicago, Ill., to take on the University of Chicago (1-5). Action set for 2 p.m.

OSHKOSH, Wis. – The No. 7 UW-Stevens Point men's basketball used a 30-12 run late in the first half to pull away from host UW-0shkosh as the Pointers cruised to a 74-53 victory over the Titans Wednesday evening at the Kolf Sports Center.

Leading by three, 15-12, with 12:50 remaining in the opening half, the Pointers (6-0, 2-0 WIAC) took control thanks to the 30-12 run, extending their lead to 21, 45-24 just before the break.

The Pointers maintained a double-digit lead throughout the second half, building their largest lead, 27 points, on a three-pointer by Trevor Hass (New London, WI/New London/Augustana (SD)) with just under five minutes to play in the game, 74-47, rolling to the 21-point victory.

UWSP held a 34-17 edge in rebounding on the evening. Tyler Tillema (Randolph, WI/Randolph) led all scorers with 20 points, 11 in the opening half. Joe Ritchay (Wisconsin Rapids, WI/Lincoln) and Hass each chipped in 10.

Andre Wallace led the titans with 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting.

The Pointers return home to face Augustana College on Saturday, Dec. 8 in a nonconference match-up with the Vikings. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
