MADISON, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point trio of men's basketball player Jordan Brezinski (Muskego, WI/Muskego), women's basketball player Sam Barber (Schofield, WI/D.C. Everest/Winona St.) and men's hockey player Andrew Kolb (Toledo, OH/Toledo Catholic) have earned Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week honors for their efforts last week in their respective sports.
Brezinski led the then 16th-ranked Pointers to two tough road wins against second-ranked UW-Whitewater and UW-Superior with back to back double-doubles last week. In the 71-60 win over the Warhawks, Brezinski scored 13 points and tallied 11 rebounds. In the second road test of the weak, Brezinski scored 14 points, 14 rebounds and had four steals leading the Pointers to a 67-58 win over the Yellowjackets and handing them their second home loss of the season. For the week, Brezinski was 10-20 from the field (50 percent) and 7-8 (90 percent) from the free throw line.
Barber helped the 12th-ranked Pointers women's basketball team to two wins last week over UW-Whitewater and UW-Superior. Barber recorded a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds while also tallying three steals in an 80-58 win over the Warhawks. In the 85-67 win over the Yellowjackets, Barber scored a career-high in points with 25 as she shot 8-13 (61.5 percent) from the field and 6-7 (86 percent) from behind the three-point arc while also tallying seven rebounds, three blocks and three steals. For the week, Barber shot 75 percent (9-12) from behind the arc, 8-10 (80 percent) from the free throw line and averaged nine rebounds a game.
Kolb led the Pointed to a 2-0 record last week with wins over UW-Eau Claire and UW-River Falls on consecutive nights. Kolb scored his first collegiate goal in a 5-2 rout of the Blugolds on Friday, Jan. 27. In a 4-1 home win over UW-River Falls on Jan. 28, Kolb scored another goal and also tallied an assist knocking off the eighth-ranked Falcons.
