State Cross Country, Level 2 Football and Volleyball Sectional Finals

A big day for three local volleyball teams. They punched their tickets to state volleyball in Green Bay next week.

Merrill defeated Marshfield at Wausau East by a final of three games to one, earning their first trip to state since 1982. Last year's state runner-up, Tomahawk will be making their fourth straight trip to state in Green Bay. They defeated Barron in three games on Saturday. Newman Catholic also is headed to Green Bay. They defeated Florence in three games as well. 2011 D3 State Runner-Up Spencer lost 3-0 to Oconto.

Saturday's level two football action saw Amherst, Owen-Withee and Medford all move on to level three. Amherst defeated Marathon 34-7 and will play Stratford next. Owen-Withee will now play Hilbert after knocking off Suring 29 to 13. Medford beat Osceola 16 to 6, and will now face Waupaca. Pittsville fell to Regis 56-38.

The 100th running WIAA State Cross Country meet in Wisconsin Rapids brought one local medalist. Three Lakes Junior Natalie Miller finished in sixth place with a time of sixteen minutes and fifteen point one-two seconds. For complete cross country results,
