Men's hockey scores nine, defeats Blue Devils
STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Freshmen Dylan Wizner (Bemidji, MN/Bemidji) and Andrew Kolb (Toledo, OH/Toledo Catholic) tallied two goals each as the 15th-ranked UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team ran away with a 9-3 victory over UW-Stout on Saturday evening at K.B. Willett Arena.
Harrison Niemann (Canton, MI/Novi) began the Pointers scoring at the 14:53 mark on his fourth goal of the season, assisted by Kevin Gibson (Grosse Pointe, MI/North) and Luke Nesper (Eagle River, WI/Northland Pines).
UWSP kept up the scoring as Kolb and Kyle Heck (Plover, WI/SPASH) both added goals over the next 1:01 for an early three-goal advantage.
Johnny Meo (Vernon Hills, IL/Ursuline) added the fourth goal of the period with just under 10 minutes to play before the Blue Devils could tally their first goal.
In the second, Wizner added to the Pointers 4-1 lead midway through the period on his first goal of the night, assisted by Niemann.
UWS brought the score within three on a Jordan Tredinnick goal, 5-2.
The Pointers once again went on a scoring spurt, this time tallying two goals in 25 seconds, complements of Kolb and
Nick Kenny for a 7-2 advantage. Chad Boeckman (St. Louis, MO/Wentzville Holt) added a shorthanded goal for the Pointers late in the period for a six-goal advantage heading into the third.
The Blue Devils Branden Gay scored just over five minutes into the third before Wizner tallied his second goal of the night, resulting in a 9-3 final.
Nick Graves (Hewitt, WI/Ashwaubenon) tallied 27 goals in 30 chances while UWS goalies stopped 25 in 34 chances.
UW-Stevens Point (12-9-4, 8-6-4 NCHA) returns to action in the NCHA Playoffs next weekend as it received the fourth seed and will host UW-Superior on Friday and Saturday. Puck is set to drop at 7 p.m. both nights. Tickets go on sale Monday at 12 p.m. through the UW-Stevens Point Ticket Office.

Women's hockey defeats Lake Forest in OT, 2-1
LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team snapped a five-game losing streak Saturday, defeating Lake Forest in overtime 2-1 in Lake Forest.
The Pointers struck first, with Michelle Lunneborg (Richfield, MN/Richfield) scoring a power-play goal in the first period off assists from Erin Marvin (Shoreview, MN/Mounds View) and Brooke Hanson (Maple Grove, MN/Maple Grove).
UWSP maintained a 1-0 lead into the third period, until Lake Forest's Angie Chronis scored at the 18:39 mark to tie the score at one.
In overtime, Lunneborg struck again on the power-play, netting the winning goal at the 2:47. The unassisted goal marks Lunneborg's seventh of the season.
Janna Beilke-Skoug (Madison WI/East) recorded the victory for the Pointers, tallying 25 saves on the day.
UWSP (10-10-2, 9-7-1 NCHA) and Lake Forest (12-7-2, 11-5-1 NCHA) return to the ice Sunday, Feb. 12 for the final game of the weekend series. Face-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. in Lake Forest.
