MADISON, Wis. - UW-Stevens Point forward Kyle Heck (Plover, WI/SPASH) and goaltender Brandon Jaeger (Champlin, MN/Champlin Park) were named to the All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's ice hockey first team, the league office announced Wednesday.
The honors are the first for both players.
Heck leads the Pointers in goals with 19 and points with 26.
Jaeger is 6-3-2 in his freshman campaign with a .918 save percentage. He was the first UWSP freshman goaltender to record a shutout in his postseason debut, leading the Pointers to a 3-0 victory over UW-Superior on Feb. 18. The victory forced a decisive mini game, which the Pointers won, advancing to the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) semifinals.
Senior forward Chad Boeckman (St. Louis, MO/Wentzville Holt) as well as defensemen Jon Bockmann (Wind Lake, WI/Muskego) and Kevin Gibson (Grosse Pointe, MI/North) received honorable mention for the first time in their careers.
Boeckman has appeared in all 27 of the Pointers' contests. He has collected four goals and 10 assists on the season in addition to being named to the All-Sportsmanship Team.
Bockmann, the team's captain, has skated in 25 contests and recorded 11 points.
Gibson ranked second on the team with 11 assists and has also scored a pair of goals.
UW-Eau Claire's Tyler Jundt was named the Max Sparger Scholar-Athlete and Steve Freeman of UW-River Falls was named Coach of the Year.
The Pointers travel to Duluth, MN. Saturday to take on St. Scholastica in the Peters Cup semifinals. Action is set to begin at 7 p.m.
