Katelyn Kuehl led the Titans (23-3) with a game-high 17 points on 6-for-6 shooting and added four rebounds and five assists. Myranda Tyler (Grafton, WI/Grafton) led the Pointers (17-10) with 11 points and six rebounds, as UWSP saw its streaks of six straight WIAC Tournament titles and 15 consecutive tournament wins come to an end.
UW-Stevens Point led 5-4 after four minutes of play but UW-Oshkosh controlled the rest of the opening half and built up a 15-point lead at 22-7 with 6:45 left in the opening half with an 18-2 run. The Pointers made just three field goals in the first 13-plus minutes of the game.
Trailing 28-13 with under four minutes to go until the break, the Pointers cut the deficit to seven at halftime by closing the half on a 10-2 run. Tyler scored five points during the spurt and Lauren Anklam (Ringle, WI/D.C. Everest) made a jumper with five seconds remaining to make the halftime score 30-23 in favor of the Titans, who outscored UWSP 14-0 in points off turnovers in the first half.
The Pointers got on the board first in the second half as a jumper by Alyssa Olp (Brillion, WI/Brillion) made it a five-point game in the opening minute. However, the Titans responded with a 12-2 run to push the lead back to double digits at 42-27. A three-pointer by Autumn Hennes (Kaukauna, WI/Kaukauna) put an end to the UWO run and made it a 12-point game but that was as close as UW-Stevens Point got the rest of the way.
Leading 48-34 with just over 12 minutes remaining, UW-Oshkosh held UW-Stevens Point scoreless for five and a half minutes before an Anklam three-pointer. The Titans led by 23 prior to Anklam's three and led by as many as 24, the final margin.
UW-Oshkosh forced 17 turnovers, committed only seven and turned that disparity into a 25-3 advantage in points off turnovers in the contest. The Titans shot 49.0 percent in the game, while the Pointers finished at 34.6 percent.
UWO also held a 16-5 edge in scoring at the free-throw line and recorded 19 assists on 25 made field goals.
In addition to Kuehl's 17 points, Sarah Stecker added 12, eight of which came at the charity stripe. Ashley Neustifter chipped in with nine points and a game-high seven assists.
Olp finished with eight points for UWSP, while Jamie Destache (Sussex, WI/Sussex-Hamilton) came off the bench to score all seven of her points in the first half.
The game was the final in the UW-Stevens Point careers of seniors Tyler, Olp, Jenna Pitt (Amherst, WI/Amherst) and Claire Glodowski (Amherst, WI/Amherst).
UW-Oshkosh advances to the WIAC Championship game on Saturday afternoon where it will face UW-Superior, who upset top-seeded UW-Whitewater in the other semifinal.
