Five different players tallied goals for UWSP and 10 different players notched at least one point.
Joshua Daley (Pittsburgh, PA) (Pittsburgh, PA) got the scoring started for the Pointers, netting his first goal of the season at the 4:20 mark of the first period.
Point extended its advantage to 2-0 when Kyle Heck (Plover, WI/SPASH) (Stevens Point, Wis.) found the back of the net.
Just over one minute later, Andrew Kolb (Toledo, OH/Toledo Catholic) (Toledo, OH) pounded one home to give the Pointers a 3-0 edge after the first period.
UWSP head coach Chris Brooks attributed the early offensive success to apply a good deal of pressure on Stout's defensemen.
“They haven't been tested like that, their defensemen had no idea what to do,” Brooks said. “We had a couple of real good goals.”
The second stanza brought much of the same for the UWSP offense. Johnny Meo (Vernon Hills, IL/Ursuline) (Vernon Hills, IL) picked up a short-handed goal in the opening moments.
Heck struck again, this time, at the 15:53 mark of the second to secure a 5-0 lead for Point heading into the final intermission.
Kyle Politz (Elko, MN/Apple Valley) (Elko, MN) kept things rolling for the Pointers with his score midway through the third period.
A short time later, Meo netted his second of the night.
Kolb put the icing on the cake, lighting the lamp for the second time in the game, in the contest's waning moments.
Heck, Meo, and Kolb each finished the night with two goals, while Alex Brooks (Grand Rapids, MI) (Grand Rapids, MI) added four assists.
Goaltender Brandon Jaeger (Champlin, MN/Champlin Park) (Champlin. MN) recorded 14 saves to pick up the second shutout of his collegiate career.
The Pointers and the Blue Devils will wrap up the two-game series Saturday night at Willett Arena. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
