OSHKOSH, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point volleyball team defeated UW-Oshkosh in three sets Wednesday, but the Titans didn't make it easy for the Pointers.
UWSP (14-3, 3-0) battled the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foe to win 25-22, 28-26, 25-23.
The Pointers have won 10 of their last 11 matches.
The Titans (11-7, 0-2) tied the first set at 22, but UWSP recorded three consecutive points to go up 1-0.
In the second set the Pointers overcame a 25-24 deficit to score four of the next five points and go up 2-0.
In the third and final set, the Titans held a 20-15 lead, but the Pointers rallied for seven consecutive points en route to the victory.
Hannah Picel (West Bend, WI/West Bend West) tallied a game-high 19 digs while Sarah Wildish (Menomonee Falls, WI/Menomonee Falls) followed with 15.
Kati Rau (Dorchester, WI/Colby) and Christina Brinkman (Bristol, WI/Westosha Central) finished with nine kills apiece, and Alexis Hartman (Lake Zurich, IL/Lake Zurich) recorded 21 assists.
Morgan Bartkowiak (Slinger, WI/Slinger) notched a pair of aces.
The Pointers continue their WIAC schedule when they travel to UW-Whitewater on Oct. 3. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
WHITEWATER, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's tennis team fell to 1-6 overall and 0-3 in conference play on Wednesday afternoon, suffering a 9-0 defeat at the rackets of UW-Whitewater.
Rachel Brown (Neenah, WI/St. Mary Central) tallied a second set victory in her No. 1 singles match but dropped the first and fell 10-4 in the third set tiebreak.
UW-Stevens Point will host the UW- Stout Blue Devils on Saturday, Sept. 29th, match set for noon.
