It was a good day, and not so good day for our local teams in the WIAA State Softball Tournament. Pacelli brings home a state championship, while Tigerton has to settle for runner-up.
Pacelli is back on top of the D3 Softball world, winning their first state title since 2003 with an 8-3 win over Poynette. Poynette beat the Cardinals in the championship game last year.
Danielle Hoover was the hitting star for the Cards going 3-3 with 4 runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base. Alicia Wimme was 2-4 with 3 RBI's. With the game still in doubt, the Cardinals had 4 straight 2-out singles to score 3 runs in the 6th, which capped off the scoring on the day and an 8-3 Pacelli win.

Tigerton was back in the Division 4 title game for the 2nd time in 3 years. They won it all in 2010. But the Tigers lose in walk-off fashion to Oakfield 5-4. It's Oakfield's 2nd straight state title and 3rd in 4 years.
Tigerton struck in the first inning when Erin Ortner hit a 2-run home run. But the Oaks countered in the bottom of the first when Ashley Holz hit a grand slam giving them a 4-2 lead.
The Tigers chipped away scoring a run in the 4th, then tying it at 4 when Jessalyn Krueger hit an inside-the-park home run.
In the bottom of the 7th, a throwing error by Emily Ortner on a sacrifice bunt put runners at 2nd and 3rd with one out. And Charlotte Pegram singled in the winning run after that for the win, 5-4.
