For Trevor Buza it was never a matter of if he was going to make it to Rosholt football's senior night.
"That was an idea for a while, I thought it was kind of a long shot..."
It was a matter of when.
"If they needed a boot which they do because they are losing! I wanted to be the one to give it to them second half" said the 18 year old Buza.
He made his surprise entrance at halftime.
"Now joining us....Trevor Buza!" The PA announcer boomed as Trevor rolled onto the Rosholt field, The crowd erupted in shock and applause.
Two weeks into his senior season, Trevor became ill with meningitis that took him off the gridiron. It attacked his spinal cord and temporarily took away the use of his legs.
"I have kind of been going a lot faster than they expected in therapy, so they gave me the pass to come out."
Fast forward a week and Trevor is back with his new team, a group of physical therapist at St. Joseph's Children's hospital, where he has been living and recovering since September.
"They don't let me do wheelies" Trevor joked from his wheelchair.
Here in this hospital wondering if Trevor will ever walk again is not the question.
"Watching him improve we see something every day. We talk about it quite a bit" said his father Don.
"In my heart I know that boy is going to be walking in the very near future" added his mother Leslie.
Trevor knows returning to the football field is out of the question for this season, so he has set his sights on a new goal.
"Definitely baseball. We have blown it in sectionals the last two years, so we gotta win state this year" said Trevor.
And it's not a matter of if he will play, it's what position.
"I think I am going to be in right field this season"
Through the good times, and the frustrating times, Trevor can teach us all something....
Life isn't about if we will take a step, it's when.
