The last time we were catching up with Newman Catholic's Lauren Fech, she was playing quarterback for Newman's middle school team.
But now she is taking the next step onto the Cardinals varsity roster.
"I'm trying out for varsity field goals" said Fech.
Kicking, a new concept for the girl who is not afraid of anything.
"This summer when I decided I was going to play and try to kick, I had never attempted a field goal in my life," said Fech.
"She is part of the team and football wise she is probably one of the smarter girls we have. She knows what is supposed to be done and she does the little things right," said Newman Head Coach Paul Michlig.
And for Lauren, game days won't just be on Friday. She'll be an active member of the Cardinals junior varisty squad.
"We already have a J.V. quarterback. I'm switching to play receiver and from a linebacker to cornerback," said Fech.
Fech immediately noticed the change jumping from middle school to high school.
"The players are a lot faster, a lot bigger and when you're a freshman going against a senior, it's not easy," said Fech.
And despite continuing her play onto the varsity level, Fech has the same goal she kept in middle school.
"I just want to be able to help the team. I want to go out there and be able to get that extra point after a touchdown. It's not really about me, it's about helping them so they can make the playoffs and hopefully make it to state," said Fech.
