Greenwood beat Lake County Lutheran 6-4 Thursday morning to win the WIAA Division 4 Baseball Championship.
The Indians jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning off of Tyler Johnson's RBI single.
LCL responded with a 4-run 2nd inning, all 4 runs were unearned. They held a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the third until Booker Bredlau had a 2-out, 2 RBI single to bring the Indians to within 4-3.
The score remained unchanged until the bottom of the 6th when the Indians put three unearned runs on the board. Alexander Volovsek started the scoring with a fielder's choice, sacrifice bunt to tie the game at 4. Then the Indians took a 6-4 lead a few batters later when Tyler Johnson's single drove in a pair.
James Hlavac came in for starter Westin Wuethrich (6 IP, 0 ER, 11 K) in the top of the 7th to close out the championship win for the Indians.
It's Greenwood's 3rd state title. The others coming in 1988 and 1990.
