Four-set Win Over Platteville is Ninth Straight for Pointers Volleyball

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - The No. 23 UW-Stevens Point volleyball team extended their winning streak to a season-best nine matches with a 3-1 victory over UW-Platteville in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) action on Wednesday night at Williams Fieldhouse.

Emma Brunkhorst (Germantown, WI/Germantown) was the lone player with double-digit kills for the Pointers, as she led the way with 15 kills for the UW-Stevens Point (20-4, 5-1 WIAC). Â UW-Platteville (11-15, 1-4 WIAC) had a balanced attack with Stephanie Kirchner, Jennifer Schmidt, and Lidia Frias all having 12 or more kills.

UWSP opened the match strong by hitting 0.360 on the way to taking the first set 25-17. However, the Pointers cooled off to 0.080 in the second set and the Pioneers capitalized to level the match at a set apiece, 25-16.

UW-Stevens Point rebounded with a 25-17 decision in the third set before grinding out the fourth set 25-23, as UW-Platteville made ten errors in the fourth set. The Pointers hit 0.185 for the match as a whole, compared to 0.160 for the Pioneers.

Alexis Hartman (Lake Zurich, IL/Lake Zurich) had a match-high 34 assists for UWSP. Four Pointers were in double figures for digs: Hannah Picel (West Bend, WI/West Bend West) (16), Marie Krengel (Eagan, MN/Eastview) (11), Sarah Wildish (Menomonee Falls, WI/Menomonee Falls) (11), and Hartman (10).

UW-Stevens Point has won five consecutive WIAC matches after losing their opener in five sets to UW-River Falls. They look to extend their winning streak at the Loras College Tournament this Friday and Saturday. On Friday, the Pointers face host Loras and William Penn. On Saturday, they face off with Luther and Wheaton (Ill.).
