Edgar Wrestling Continuing Tradition

Tradition is continuing at Edgar.

"Me and my brother Matt have been wrestling varsity since we were freshman. And my Dad has been pushing us since we were four." Said Senior and top-ranked 182 lb wrestler Luke Nowak.

And their list of goals continues to grow every year.

"We've won the dual portion of the Marawood conference and this Saturday we are looking to win the team tournament." Said Head Coach Kevin Koch.

And while eight straigh conference titles may be great, but for Edgar it's just not enough.

"Right now were focused on winning our nineth straigh Marawood Conference title, outright."

"For us to win it for our nineth time, we need to have guys in the finals. And if they aren't in the finals, they need to be winning." added Nowak.

"If were going to lose we can't give up a pin. Have to keep it close. Lose by a minor, can't give up a major. And when it's our turn we have to win by a major." said Senior and second ranked 152lb in the state Anthony Lemanski.

And despite having a resume of four returning champions, five top ten ranked wrestlers, and being number two in the state they don't pay attention to all the numbers.

"When I am wrestling someone, I don't care what his background is. It's jsut me and him out on the mat, not anybody else." remakred Nowak

"It's not really in the back of my mind, I just wrestle every match my hardest trying to get a pin or the most points for my team." added Lemanski.

One meet at a time the Wildcats are crossing goals off their list, inching closer to the big one-a team State Title.
