After a season at Division II Winnona State, Sam Barber Realized being with the Stevens' Point Pointers is where she belonged.
"When I went home after Winnona, I was like you know? Maybe that wasn't for me. " Said the UWSP Senior.
So she made a few calls and came back home.
"I remember the day Sam sent me a text and I let out a big scream and she made the best decision for her. I know there were many other schools were trying to get the services of Sam Barber." Remarked head coach Shirley Egner
"I know one of the main reasons she came back was to be closer to home and fmaily. He Mom is at almost every single one of our games and I know having theat support around her really helps her out."
Said fellow senior Captain Liz Althoff
With two and-a-half seasons of Pointers Basketball under her belt it seemed coming home was the right choice for Sam, when on January 5th Sam became the 19th member of Stevens Point's 1000 Career Points Club.
"It was a very special moment and I know my Mom was in the stands and she lit up a little bit so I threw her the ball jsut to let her know I recognize her, too." Said Barber.
"Sam definitley is one of the top-five players in the country. She was an
All-American last year and I think she will be an All-American this year. I think when he career is done she'll be very pround of the numbers she's put up." Egner said.
The Pointers are currently tied for first in the WIAC and Sam says when this season ends she hopes her days in Berg Gym aren't quite over.
"I definitley want to come back, this is my family and it has been for the last three years and I dont wan't it to end."
And who knows? Maybe home sweet home is just the place for Sam to begin her coaching career.
