Green Bay, WI- The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters lost a tough, 10-1, decision Tuesday even at Joannes Stadium to the Green Bay Bullfrogs. The loss marked the first time the Rafters have lost back-to-back ballgames for first time since a June 8 loss to the Lakeshore Chinooks.
John Kravetz was the tough-luck loser Tuesday night as the Illinois Junior to-be, twirled 5 2/3 innings pitched while allowing seven runs. Only one run was earned as the Rafters defense combined for five errors on the evening, a season high for the Rafters defense.
The Bullfrogs broke the game open in the bottom of the second inning when they tagged Kravetz for four runs. Jack Parenty began the frame by reaching on an error and Cabe Reiten followed the error with a base knock to centerfield to give the Bullfrogs runners at first and second and nobody out. The first run of the inning would come on an error and a fielder’s choice, scoring Parenty and making the score, 2-0. The Bullfrogs would scratch across three more runs in the frame for the largest inning of the ballgame to take an insurmountable lead, 5-0.
Matt Esparaza was the story Tuesday evening as the University of Tennessee prospected twirled seven complete innings, but did not allow his first hit until Jonathan Moroney reached on an extra-base hit to right-center field. The triple was the first of the season for the Rafters offenses attack and led to the Rafters first run of the ballgame as Jackson Slaid roped the Rafters second base-hit over the head of Bullfrog’s centerfielder, Trevin Sonnier. The Rafters send 21 men to the plate before the club recorded their first base hit of the season.
The Rafters would muster just two hits throughout the evening in their first loss of the season to the Green Bay Bullfrogs. The Rafters and Bullfrogs will finish up a home-and-home series tomorrow night for the final games of the two game series as the tilt shifts towards Witter Field. Wisconsin Rapids will look to bounce back tomorrow evening when they hit the road for a short one-game road trip against the Green Bay Bullfrogs. The game is part of a home-and-home series that will conclude the Rafters first half schedule. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Joannes Stadium.
