STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team dropped its fifth straight game on Sunday afternoon as the Pointers fell 6-4 to the Bulldogs of Adrian College.
Like Saturday evening, the visiting Bulldogs (10-8-2, 8-6-2 NCHA) struck first, scoring at the 6:26 mark of the first period.
The Pointers evened the score at the 13:14 mark of the opening period, as Michelle Lunneborg (Richfield, MN/Richfield) scored off an Allie Tanzer (Chippewa Falls, WI/Chippewa Falls) to make the score 1-1.
In the second, the Bulldogs tallied a pair of goals to take a 3-1 lead before Cassandra Salmen (Stillwater, MN/Stillwater) tallied a goal at the 17:48 mark to cut the deficit to one, 3-2.
Adrian responded just 15 seconds later on the power play to push the lead back to two goals and took the 4-2 edge into the intermission.
In the third, Adrian tallied a pair of power play goals to extend their lead to 6-2.
UW-Stevens Point tallied a pair of goals midway through the third to pull within two, 6-4, but the Bulldogs kept the Pointers out of goal for the final 5:27 to secure the league victory.
Johanna Sommers (Rhinelander, WI/Rhinelander) suffered the loss, tallying 13 saves while Adrian's Brittany Zeches stopped 18 UWSP shots on target.
UW-Stevens Point (9-10-2, 8-7-1 NCHA) will head to Lake Forest, Ill. for a weekend series with the Foresters Feb. 11-12 before returning home to close out the regular season Feb. 17-18 at home against Concordia (Wis.).
