The Assumption Royals turned Thursday's Division 5 Semifinal game with rival Newman into a blowout by the end of the opening quarter on their way to a 60-37 win.
The Cardinals had 7 turnovers in the first quarter and trailed 20-7 after the first 8 minutes. For the game, Newman had 20 turnovers. Assumption had 20 turnovers as well, but it was what each team did with those turnovers, as the Royals had 15 points off turnovers, 17 points for the Cardinals.
But the difference in this one came down to shooting. Newman couldn't find their range, hitting just 13-of-48 shots for 27.1%, and only 2-for-13 from 3-point range. The Royals were 23-for-44 shooting, 52.3%.
The Royals will face Barneveld in the D5 championship game Saturday. Assumption beat Barneveld 44-41 back on January 12.
