Amherst Wins D5 State Title

Inside Amherst's Game-Winning Drive

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Senior quarterback Caleb Glennon threw for 129 yards and two touchdowns and registered the clinching interception as Amherst won the WIAA Division 5 championship with a 19-7 victory over Lancaster Thursday at Camp Randall.
It was the first title for Amherst (13-0) in its first title game appearance.
Despite playing without injured quarterback Chris Zblewski, the team's leading rusher and passer, Glennon engineered a nine-play, 66-yard touchdown drive in the first quarter and the game-winning nine-play, 73-yard drive in the third quarter.
Amherst finished the season having outscored opponents 510-109 in 13 games.
Lancaster (12-1) finished runner-up for the second straight season and remained at six titles, tied for second most in state history, because it couldn't capitalize on its chances.
