When the clock hit zero on Friday after the Amherst Falcons defeated Colby 34-6 in the Level 4, their undefeated record played second fiddle to their first State Championship bid
"This is what we have been dreaming about all year, we talked about it in the beginning of the year and since then we've just been taking it game by game..Friday night was amazing but come Sunday we were back to work" said senior Caleb Glennon
"I am speechless at this point...we put a lot of work into this season, had a lot of fun. Never thought we would make it to state" added Ryan Makuski.
The anxiety for Thursdays kick off is making the seconds pass like hours and the hours pass like days but nerves arent keeping the players from dreaming about greatness
"Today the day went by so long i was like imagaing me scoring touch downs and breaking tackles...i was imagining me being like the super star of the game" said Caleb Zblewski
The reality of the state championship game is that the Falcons will likely be playing without starting quarterback Chris Zblewski after he suffered a high ankle sprain last week.
"I have the up most confidence in Caleb Glennon and Garry Groshek to fill the spot of the quarterback. its not going to be just one guy all of them are going to have to do it. we have a tremendous defense still. I'm proud of our kids, with Chris going down we are facing more adversity. but we'll bounce back." said a reflective Coach Mark Lusic.
"First time at Camp Randall, everyone is going to feel that anxiety but I'm sure once the game starts well all just settle down and just play football." said backup quarterback Caleb Glennon.
Tomorrow Amherst high school will be hosting a pep rally at 8am and then at 8:30 they players will head to Goerke Field for one last practice in a stadium like atmosphere and then they will head down to Madison to take on the Lancaster flying arrows.
