Packers Plan to Give Franks, Lee Equal Opportunities at Tight End

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- Bubba Franks and Donald Lee are out to prove there isn't necessarily strength in numbers.

For the first time since 1992, the Packers enter the season with just two tight ends on their roster.

Barring an unlikely late-week acquisition, it'll be Franks and Lee - and that's it.

Not that either is complaining.

Offensive coordinator Joe Philbin says both had good camps, and both will be used equally this season.

One reason the Packers are comfortable with only two tight ends is that Franks is flashing the same form that earned him three Pro Bowl selections from 2001 through 2004.

He's coming off back-to-back disappointing seasons, but he has impressed coaches with his preseason play.

Franks says the reason he struggled last year is because he was learning a new system.
