MILWAUKEE (AP) -- The Brewers placed right-hander Claudio Vargas on the disabled list today, as expected.
Vargas complained of back pain after getting hammered for six runs in two-thirds of an inning Friday night in San Francisco.
The Brewers didn't say yet who will fill Vargas' roster spot.
Manager Ned Yost is hoping Ben Sheets will be activated and can pitch the second or third game of the Brewers' crucial series against the Cubs which begins tonight in Chicago.
Jeff Suppan will pitch tonight.
The next two nights, the Brewers list pitchers as undecided.
