MILWAUKEE (AP) -- The Milwaukee Brewers have sent second baseman Rickie Weeks to AAA Nashville.
The Brewers decided they couldn't wait any longer for Weeks to shake off his season-long slump.
He was batting .212 with five homers and 19 RBI in 75 games.
Weeks had surgery on his right wrist last August and has experienced inflammation from time to time.
The Brewers replaced Weeks on the roster with infielder/outfielder Joe Dillion.
He was batting .317 at Nashville with team highs of 20 home runs and 73 RBI.
Dillon is more of a corner infielder.
The Brewers have veteran infielders Tony Graffanino and Craig Counsell to fill in at second base.
The National League Central leaders also recalled pitcher Elmer Dessens from his minor league rehab assignment in Nashville and placed pitcher Scott Linebrink on leave following the birth of his first child.
Linebrink was acquired from San Diego in a trade last week.
Dessens has spent much of the season on the Brewers' disabled list with a shoulder strain.
He made three appearances for Nashville, going 1-0 with a 1.54 ERA.
