State transportation officials are thinking about adding an interstate exit to accommodate the heavy traffic from major golf championships at Whistling Straits in Sheboygan County.

DOT Regional Director Mike Berg says they're only at the beginning stages of such a project.

State and local officials are considering a partial interchange to route traffic directly to the golf course in Haven.

Traffic for the last two major tournaments has come from Cleveland to the north, or from the Highway 42 exit to the south.

The U.S. Senior Open wrapped up July 8.

Whistling Straits will host the 2010 PGA Championship.
