MILWAUKEE (AP) -- The Milwaukee Brewers will try to maintain their first-place standing in the N.L. Central without all-star Ben Sheets.
The Brewers pitching ace says the news about his finger injury is worse than he thought.
He has a partial tissue tear in the middle finger of his pitching hand and would be out six weeks.
Sheets believed he'd only have to miss a couple weeks with a partial tear.
But, doctors say he shouldn't even throw a baseball for 10 to 14 days.
Then he would move to throwing with a splint on his finger.
The Brewers will go with rookie right-hander Yovani Gallardo in Sheets' rotation spot.
Gallardo pitched well in place of Chris Capuano last month.
