Cole Hamels came up short in his bid for a perfect game, but the Philadelphia Phillies completed their climb to a .500 record by beating the Milwaukee Brewers 6-to-2 tonight in Philadelphia.
Hamels retired his first 18 batters and struck out eleven batters as the Phillies won their third straight game in the four-game series that winds up tomorrow afternoon.
Hamels didn't allow a baserunner until he walked Rickie Weeks to open the seventh inning. J-J Hardy followed with Milwaukee's first hit, his 13th homer of the year. Hardy leads the National League in homers.
