GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- Aaron Johnston of South Dakota State has been hired as the new women's basketball coach at Wisconsin-Green Bay, replacing Kevin Borseth who left for Michigan two weeks ago.
Johnston's hiring was announced by Green Bay in a news release today.
His South Dakota State team, competing on provisional NCAA Division One status, finished with a 25-6 record last season and reached the quarterfinals of the Women's National Invitation Tournament before losing to eventual WNIT champion Wyoming.
Green Bay is coming off a season that saw the Phoenix reach the national rankings and the second round of the Fresno Regional of the NCAA tournament before losing to Connecticut.
The loss snapped a string of 26 consecutive wins for the Phoenix, the nation's longest winning streak at the time.
They finished the season with a 29-4 record.
Borseth led the Phoenix to seven NCAA tournament appearances in his nine seasons as coach.
