Brewers Cut Strikeouts, Increase On-Base Percentage

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Early results for the Brewers' effort to cut down on strikeouts and increase their on-base percentage have been encouraging.

Through 18 games, the Brewers cut their strikeout total from 142 last season to 107 this year.

The Brewers are among the National League leaders in nearly every offensive category.

Manager Ned Yost doesn't think the early performance is a fluke.

He says it's a pattern established during spring training.

New hitting coach Jim Skaalen says they're working on consistency, staying on time and staying relaxed.
