The Wisconsin Valley Conference indoor track meet has been dominated by SPASH the last couple of years, but this year is a little different.
Tuesday afternoon at UW-Stevens Point, the girls Wausau East track team placed first in six events led by Kate Sanft, Jamie Dittmar and Corinna Saager, boosting the Lumberjacks past their competition with a 129-point victory, taking the Valley Conference indoor title.
"All the conference meets are really important," says Saager, a senior. "it's just amazing to win. We never thought we could do it."
With the girls ending on a high note indoors, they have high expectations for the outdoor season.
"This is only a starting point for our team," says Dittmar, also a senior. "We've been working up to this for a while and we certainly deserve it, but again, it is a starting point and we'll see how far we can go."
That much anticipated outdoor season will begin for the lumberjacks on April 17 in Marshfield.
