MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Wisconsin defensive end Jamal Cooper is back on the Badger football team.
He was suspended earlier this year for failing to meet several academic standards set by coach Bret Bielema.
But he's been reinstated and practiced today for the first time this spring.
Bielema says he reinstated Cooper after seeing sufficient academic progress during the second semester.
The Badger coach insisted today Cooper hasn't been the beneficiary of preferential treatment.
Bielema says he'll continue to watch Cooper's situation.
As he put it, "If (Cooper) continues to stay on the path he is, he'll be with us" when play resumes this fall.
