Nine Days Left Until Brewers Break Camp

PHOENIX (AP) -- Players are battling for the last roster spots as the Milwaukee Brewers get closer to breaking camp.

One of those players is Racine native Vinny Rottino.

He's using his versatility to try to land a spot. Rottino can play first or third base, left or right field and can catch.

The 27-year-old Rottino was undrafted after four years at UW-La Crosse.

He spent a semester in pharmacy school before he earned a spot in the Brewers system during a tryout camp in 2003.

He's worked his way up to being a September call-up last season.

Rottino's status could hinge on whether the Brewers keep 11 or 12 pitchers.
