MESA, Ariz. (AP) -- The Brewers got a good outing from starting pitcher Claudio Vargas, but they couldn't hang on for a win, losing to the Chicago Cubs 6-3 yesterday.
Vargas pitched three innings, giving up four hits and two unearned runs.
Chicago catcher Jake Fox hit his second homer in two days to key a four-run sixth inning.
The Cubs also got another strong pitching performance from right-hander Jason Marquis.
Third baseman Aramis Ramirez had an RBI double in the sixth.
Third baseman Craig Counsell was two-for-three for Milwaukee.
Kerry Wood pitched one scoreless inning in relief for the Cubs.
