MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- New London got 17 points from Michelle Handschke and unleashed a suffocating defense in the second half en route to a 43-27 victory over Neillsville in today's Division Two semifinals of the WIAA Girls Basketball Tournament in Madison.
The Bulldogs (24-2) held Neillsville (22-3) to only three points in the second quarter and led 19-14 at halftime.
The Warriors closed to 23-22 with 3:01 left in the third quarter on a putback by Mallori Sydorowicz.
But they scored only five more points -- three the entire fourth quarter.
Christina Moore scored 11 points for New London, and point guard Andrea Flease chipped in with four steals and five assists.
Sheila Opelt led Neillsville with seven points.
